Canadian Giant Redworms: The Perfect Prey
Long gone are the times when Giant Redworms were
considered a mere insider’s tip for sports fishermen in Canada and the US. Also known by the name of European Nightcrawlers, these worms have been a favourite bait for anglers of predatory fish for years now.
Three main characteristics make these worms so attractive for ambitious fishermen:
They grow about 1.5 times longer than their European counterpart, reaching sizes of up to 23 cm
(9 in).
When in danger, dew-worms and European redworms tend to excrete an ill-smelling substance (or “fear
secretionâ€) that can scare off predatory fish or even drive them away permanently (if they have just eaten). Giant redworms lack this ability and are thus a real treat for pikes, zanders, eels, breams, cod,
etc.
The most important advantage however is that giant redworms are resilient. They withstand low
temperatures and do not get worn out so quickly, even under water. The worms stay active and moving, which makes them a more attractive prey for predatory fish for longer periods of time.
At our worm farm, we breed Canadian giant redworms
for exactly those three reasons - to create the perfect bait.
During the breed, we take great caution to make
contaminations of any kind, e.g. cross-breeding with the European redworm or infections, impossible. Thanks to this caution, we are able to provide a fishing bait of consistently high quality.
Moreover, we guarantee that our worms reach their
destination in living state. With a safe packaging and quick delivery, we make sure your bait stays fit and active.
